The lithium-ion battery determines the performance and operating range of the hybrid drive train. It has 2 major advantages compared with conventional nickel metalhydride batteries: its high energy density means greater power output, whilst the compact construction considerably reduces its weight. Active battery cooling improves the availability of the hybrid system and prolongs its operating life.
